Ambigram Style Tattoos

Ambigram (from Latin: ambi both + gram = letter) -gram ("drawing, writing")

A word or words that can be read in more than one direction.

An ambigram is glyph (letters, numbers, symbols or other shapes) calligraphic composition that may have different meanings depending on the orientation of observation. Most ambigrams are visual palindromes based on some kind of symmetry and can often be interpreted as visual words.

This term in 1983-1984 was introduced by Douglas Hofstadter. When words are reversed, they remain the same or change to reveal a different meaning.

Ambigrams can be constructed in different languages and alphabets, and the concept often refers to numbers and other symbols. It is a recent interdisciplinary concept that combines art, literature, mathematics, cognition and optical illusions. Drawing symmetrical words is also an amateur recreational activity. Ambigram tattoos have become increasingly popular. Have arisen methods for developing an ambigram, a tattoo.

One of the rotational ambigram tattoos are words or phrases written in such a way that they appear identical even when they are turned upside down. These are called symmetric ambigrams. They can easily be read equally from any direction.

Symmetry in ambigrams generally improves the visual appearance of calligraphic words. Herman Rorschach, the inventor of the Rorschach test, notes that many subjects reject asymmetrical figures. Symmetry provides part of the necessary artistic composition.

In mathematics, a palindromic number (also known as a number palindrome) is a number that remains unchanged when its digits are inverted along the vertical axis.

In ambigram calligraphy, each letter acts as an illustration, each letter is created with attention to detail and plays a unique role in the composition. An ambigram is a work of art made up of letters. Ingeniously crafted characters are designed to be read from multiple positions.

Mirror image ambigram tattoos are a design that can be easily read when reflected in a mirror. They read exactly the same from left to right as from right to left.

Another type of rotational ambigram tattoo is an asymmetrical design. This is when words or phrases are written in such a way that when they are turned upside down, different words appear.

Figure ground ambigram tattoos are designs that do not require rotation. Spacing between the letters of one word creates another word with only a slight change in perception. "This style is often mixed and matched with the related style of calligraphy tattoos - they are similar but with a different concept :)

P.S.

Actually, an interesting and quite unusual style that has found a foothold in the world of tattoos, it is definitely not in the top of the classical styles, but observant people with analytical mindset will find it interesting. It is difficult to combine this style with other styles, but it is not necessary either - the numbers speak for themselves :)
